Dave worked on his Coney sauce for over 5 years and experimented a lot on our good neighbor Joel. In 2009, Dave took a trip back to Woonsocket, Rhode Island, and also took a tour of neighboring Massachussets, to make sure his sauce measured up to what he remembered. Sixteen Coney shops later, including to the shop that started it all, he declared his sauce fit to serve and took the plunge - Dave’s New England Coneys was born.
People in Rhode Island have several alternative names for what we serve – New York System wiener, gagger, belly busters, missles or red hot weenie (no kidding!). Folks from Michigan are served a slight variation known as the Coney Dog.
Regardless of the name, transplants from Rhode Island and even upper Michigan see our cart and ask “are they real?” Yes, they are. Their thumbs-up and smiles after one bite confirms it.
Our mission is to serve the best tasting, authentic, Coneys in the Pacific Northwest. This is not your NW chili dog! (although you can get one of those too.) It is also not your foot long hot dog or White Hot found in upper New York. It is the real deal from Rhode Island: A Greek meat sauce served with a wiener, mustard, onion, celery salt, and plenty of snap.
Dave’s New England Coneys is a mobile food cart. This is not your ordinary hot dog cart. It is a full commercial kitchen on wheels.
